  1. I had Awsom News Announcement installed on a few blogs for awhile, but when WordPress added the static post functionality to the core application I deactivated it and deleted it. I just tried running the Awsom Uninstaller plugin to remove it from the database, and it’s saying that the plugin is still active and needs to be deactivated before I can uninstall it. Do I need to re-install it before I can uninstall it completely?

  2. Hi Roger,
No, you don’t need to (and shouldn’t) have the plugin activated or installed before running the uninstaller. The news plugin has 2 different versions that existed, with 2 different folder structures. Make sure that both are de-activated and deleted. I’ll check to see if maybe I need to update the uninstaller, which could have broken due to changes in WordPress 2.7.1

  3. Thank you. Please let me know what you find out. I double-checked my installed plugins both in the WordPress Plugins section, and through an FTP browser, and Awsom News Announcement is no longer installed, so I don’t know why it’s listed as active by the uninstaller.

  4. I did some testing and on my test system it uninstalled properly and listed it as properly not activated. I’m honestly not sure what’s going on. What version of the news plugin did you have installed? Did you ever upgrade it from previous versions? And are you using wordpress 2.7.1?

  5. First I need to apologize… When i got your message, I went back in by FTP and I DID find the plugin folder. I manage several blogs, and I must have gone into the wrong bookmark when I looked before. I was confused because I couldn’t find it lited with the Plugins in the WordPress Dashboard.

Yes, I am using WordPress 2.7.1. I’m not certain which version of the news plugin I had installed, I un-installed it a while ago because I wasn’t using the static post function anyway. I only noticed that there was some piece of it left when I noticed the “powered by Awsom” still at the bottom of my footer. It’s not a big deal, but I thought I’d tidy up.

I did just check a blog I set up for my wife that has the News plugin still running and the version is 1.4.4, so I’m guessing that might be what the version that I last had (unless it was automatically upgraded at some point).

Here’s something else though… Although the plugin is still in effect on her site, it’s not listed with the plugins. It shows up under Tools. And I can’t find an option there to disable it. Am I missing something there? I thought it was managed under Plugins.

  6. I apologize again for taking your valuable time. After my last message–after I had found the plugin folder by FTP–I deleted the News plugin and was able to successfully run the uninstaller. Thank you for your help.

    • Hi,
the uninstaller removes the database entries that the plugins create. If you aren’t concerned by these being in your database then you could just remove the files and be fine.
