AWSOM News 1.1.0 Now Available
The new version of AWSOM News Announcement (1.1.0) is now available. Grab it from the AWSOM News Announcement page.
AWSOM News Announcement version 1.1.0 out soon
I’m finishing up a new version of the AWSOM News Announcement plugin and should have it up in the next day or so.
New feature: You no longer need to edit your theme file to have the announcement show up in it’s default location above your posts on the index page! You will still have the option to place it in a custom location using the placement code, and it has legacy support for anyone with version 1.0.2, so you don’t have to change anything if you don’t want to.
If you have our RSS feed set up you’ll get the announcement when I post the New Version, otherwise check the version number listed in the left box and grab it when you see it listed as 1.1.0.
AWSOM Pixgallery updated to version 4.3.4
AWSOM Pixgallery has been updated to version 4.3.4 and is now available for download. This is a minor bug fix that corrects some issues with the Admin area Pixgallery options page incorrectly displaying the order of the options. This is only a cosmetic fix. To upgrade download the new zip file and overwrite the files on your server.
Also, version 4.4.0 is now in development :)
First set of AWSOM WordPress tutorials available now
I’ve uploaded my first set of WordPress tutorials. These tutorials are designed to help regular people understand the process of setting up a WordPress website. This set of tutorials get you up and running, the next will begin to explain how the theme system works and what each file does to display your site.
The long road ahead
Welcome to the AWSOM project. This website is the product of many conversations I’ve had with Artists, Webcomic creators, and others who continually asked me how they could go about setting up their own websites. For most people web coding is a difficult and unrewarding hassle which requires extensive research and often leads to confusion and loss of productive time. Even the easiest website development systems are often too complex for most people to utilize without extra help.
After looking around I came to the decision that WordPress was the easiest and most flexible system available currently for non-technical people to create a website. It’s not perfect, and still requires the creator to understand at least a small amount of HTML and CSS, but with some help most people can get something set up that will satisfy their needs.
AWSOM.org will help this effort by being a one stop place for people to go to get information about how to set up their site, what plugins might be useful, discover when security updates or new versions of WordPress or plugins come out, and get general advice about settings, options and template markup. We also host our own custom plugins that are designed specifically for Art and Webcomic sites.
So please check out the site, and feel free to go to our forum area at Harknell.com and post your questions or comments. (BTW, you can always use our RSS feed and be automatically informed when a new update happens here.)
