Yikes! AWSOM Pixgallery quickly updated to 4.4.1

Due to a bug discovered right after release The AWSOM Pixgallery Plugin has been updated to 4.4.1. The bug fix only affects people with custom permalinks, and only if they wanted to use the automatic cache folder. Otherwise there isn’t anything different for other users. If you want to upgrade to 4.4.1 simply overwrite your files with the newer versions in the new download, no need to deactivate and reactivate the plugin. If your cache still doesn’t appear add a / in front of the listed cache path in the cache field in the Pixgallery Options menu to make it look like: /wp-content/uploads/cache/

This will fix the issue.

AWSOM Pixgallery 4.4.0 now available

Hi everyone, I’m proud to announce the newest version of the AWSOM Pixgallery plugin for WordPress. Version 4.4.0 is now available for download from it’s product page. This new version adds many new features and usability upgrades. Images now can have custom names along with initial tag support (for inputting them, search will be enabled soon). You can now define Galleries and have the plugin generate the proper code to input into your page/post to have the gallery appear. You can have the plugin create a default cache folder as well as a default gallery folder. And many other bug fixes and improvements to the way the galleries look and function.

One Important thing though for upgraders: The Image Caption admin area has moved. It is now under the “Write” admin menu. This is a result of the way WordPress is designed which only allows one plugin submenu under an existing Admin menu area. “Manage” now contains the Galleries management area. Also, Image Captions now require that you input the actual name of the image file including it’s extension. After upgrading you will need to go to the “Write” admin area tab and open the Pixgallery Image Caption section and add the image name to all of your existing captions (sorry, was a needed change for future development) before they will display their captions in your galleries as normal.

This new version has many features and usability improvements based on your feedback. I hope things are moving toward making AWSOM Pixgallery the easiest and best solution to placing an Image gallery on your site. Please let me know what you think of the new version either by commenting here or by posting on my support forum at www.harknell.com. Thanks.

WordPress 2.2 Security Issue, patch it now

WordPress 2.2 has a security issue that requires immediate patching by anyone using this version. There is not an official new download available from the wordpress.org site yet, but you can get information on how to fix the vulnerability on their support forum here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/120857?replies=12.

It requires you to replace a file (xmlrpc.php) with a new version, details are in the thread linked to above. This vulnerability affects any WordPress 2.2 install that allows comments and allows users to register. (which is probably a large number of websites). The vulnerability will allow a hacker to get your admin password, so this is bad.

Go check now and fix this if you are using this version!

Contact Form plugin updated to 2.0.4

The Contact Form with Spam Protection that I use on this site as my contact form has just been updated to 2.0.4. by the developer. It contains a few bug fixes and some small improvements. It’s a great way to handle being contacted without having to put your email address up for every spambot to grab.

AWSOM Pixgallery 4.4.0 Snapshot

I just wanted to give you guys an idea of how things are going on the next release of the AWSOM Pixgallery WordPress plugin 4.4.0. This release will be very large with tons of new usability features and caoabilities. Based on user feedback the new version will have a cache creation and default gallery creation system, as well as a code generator for the proper code to add to your posts to embed a gallery.

Galleries can now be defined and new image elements can be defined (such as custom name and tags). Overall view and engine updates have been added as well as support for the coming theme system in 4.5.0 The last element is an image uploader system, which is the last addition before code freeze.

No target release date yet due to extensive testing requirements, but it should be within a week. Grab our RSS feed to get the release news as soon as it happens.

BTW, thanks to everyone who’s written in and posted feedback, it really helps. Oh, and any donations to help fund development are always appreciated :)
