It’s pretty traditional on a webcomic site to have some sort of navigation system for the comic archive. In most cases it’s as simple as a next/previous set of arrows, and a first/last link setup to go to the beginning and end of the comic run. WordPress doesn’t really have the second set of links standard, and the regular next/previous links will go through all of your posts regardless of whether you posted a comic that day or not. The MyComic plugin adds the ability to tag each of your news posts as to whether it was associated with a comic and then creates it’s own navigation arrows to move through them and a first/last link. It’s not too hard to use, but does require you to remember to use a part of WordPress that isn’t normally used by most people (the custom key/value area). Great idea for ComicPress users.

wpZipper is a new website that does one thing: Makes a zip file of WordPress along with whatever plugins you want. You go through the long list, select the plugins you want, then bam, it makes the zip file for you. Just unzip the whole thing, upload to your server, and you have it all there ready to set up. This takes the hassle out of looking all over for things and doing it one by one.

One small qualm: They haven’t put MY plugins up there yet! I’ll berate them until they correct this oversight :)

Now that WordPress 2.2 comes standard with the sidebar widgets plugin (which allows you to drag and drop customize the sidebar areas without altering the theme files–look in the Admin Presentation area) as a core system, here are some other widget plugins that you can get that are pretty useful:

Configurable Pages Widget: This widget lets you set up the Pages sidebar tree menu in a better way than the default one does, you can exclude certain pages appearing and set the order http://is-here.com/projects/wordpress/pages

Drop Down Archive and Progress bar widgets: One widget adds a Drop Down archive to your sidebar area (much like my AWSOM Drop Down Archive plugin does on the main) while the other one adds a progress bar to your sidebar area that has color selection and other customizable features. http://tech.windsofstorm.net/

By now there are tons of widgets out there for almost anything. A quick Google search for WordPress widget will net you tons. So go check out what you can find, you never know what’s available.
