AWSOM Pixgallery performance tuning

WordPress is a very powerful content management system. The cost of this power can sometimes be at your server’s CPU and memory resources. One tip for anyone using AWSOM Pixgallery, and NOT using it’s built in lightbox effects, is to simply turn off it’s usage of the built in effects library. This setting is in the Pixgallery admin settings/options page and is listed as “If you want to use a 3rd party javascript plugin and turn off the built in system, set the following setting to “custom” and input the custom rel code needed to add the effect to your images in the following box.”

What you are doing is turning off the loading of pixgallery.js.php, which can easily cut down on your file transfer amounts as well as overall server cpu/memory resources.

I’ll post more tuning tips over time for my plugins, as well as general ideas for overall speed/resource tuning for WordPress.

AWSOM Pixgallery updated to 4.5.10

The AWSOM Pixgallery WordPress plugin has been updated to version 4.5.10 to fix a few minor bugs dealing with the Visual Editor function as well as some pathing issues with the CSS and JS files. Nothing major but still a good idea to upgrade to stay current. You can now use the WordPress automatic upgrade function to update the plugin, so this makes it even easier.

WordPress 2.8 compatibility achieved

All of the AWSOM plugins have been updated to be compatible with WordPress 2.8.2. In the cases of Pixgallery and Archive plugins this required the change of their plugin folder names to be compatible with their WordPress repository names. It is suggested that upgraders should use FTP to delete the old folders for these plugins from their servers and move over the new plugin folders from the downloads off AWSOM.org. After this though all future updates should be easily done through the WordPress built in upgrade function.

Upcoming minor updates

Hi everyone, minor updates will soon be released for the AWSOM Archive and AWSOM Pixgallery plugins to make them more compatible with the WordPress automatic upgrade and install system. I might throw in a few small fixes or additions but this will primarily just be a compatibility release for both. A bug fix update will also be released for the AWSOM News Announcement plugin to correct a Visual editor issue. This might inspire me to release real new versions soon….

Not Dead

Hi everyone,
No, I’m not dead. The lack of updates recently is due to a ton of other work I’m involved with. This is the unfortunate issue that can happen to projects like the one here when other (i.e. money) related projects pop up. So I will be back at some point with more updates, but I can’t say when. More than likely you’ll know when that occurs when you see a plugin update notification in your WordPress showing a new AWSOM plugin update is available.
